Posted by Ms Royale as Katie Couric, Rachel Smith

Miss USA, Rachel Smith, totally dissed Katie Couric. Smith has aspirations of becoming a reporter but wants to be nothing like Couric. Smith says:
“I always wanted to be a reporter - maybe some TV. Who knows? Some serious news - but some modeling, too . . . I just don’t want to end up like Katie Couric. I want people to take me seriously.”
A representative for Couric responded back:
“If (Rachel Smith) continues to offer such profound insight, she will not have to worry about anyone taking her seriously.”
Ahhh….There’s about to be a WHAT?!?! A GIRL FIGHT!! My money is on Katie Couric! Rachel Smith is WEAK!

1This is the lie that will not die! On October 1, the NY Daily News finally got around to printing a retraction of this canard, but not before doing substantial damage to Miss Smith’s reputation.
Here is an excerpt from Miss Smith’s blog:
“While strolling down the pink carpet of this lovely event, I was stopped by many journalists, one which included a young woman from the New York Daily News. Her questions covered a wide spectrum of material, but I was eagerly willing to supply her with material for her piece. One of her questions was something along the lines of, “What would you like to do after Miss USA?” My answer to her was something like this, “I have aspirations of pursuing journalism after my reign as Miss USA. I would like to do a little more entertainment-oriented, lighter news, unlike the news Katie Couric does, because I would like to still have the opportunity to do modeling jobs and endorsement opportunities. My credibility would be at risk if I tried to do those things while delivering hard news.”
In no way, shape or form was my comment a “diss” to Katie Couric. To the contrary, I am actually a HUGE fan of Ms. Couric’s, and I would love nothing more than to replicate a successful journalism career like hers. I would consider myself lucky to have a career a fraction as successful as hers in my future!”
Here’s the link to the full text of what she told the Daily News interviewer:

As for Rachel Smith being weak, she was subjected to
racist abuse in Mexico every time she appeared in public for weeks for no other reason than her national origin. The night of the finals, pageant officials had to call in extra security for fear the hostile mob would storm the stage and attack her. If none of this shows on her face, it is a tribute to her courage and self-possession. We are honored to be represented by a young lady of such grace, poise, and strength of character. Many girls would have broken under that kind of pressure.
